Srisailam, the abode of Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba Devi known to exist from time immemorial. Surrounded by river Krishna known locally as Pathala Ganga and Green valleys Srisailam is one of the most auspicious, sacred places on the earth. It is also believed to be the centre of gravity of India, if not earth. It is referred to as origin with reference to which all the other places are indentified during the Sankalpa of every ritual done.
The world famous Srisailam Power Project and Dam are constructed between the two hills of Sunnipenta and Domalapenta (Original habitations of Tribals known as Chenchus).Townships are developed on the two hills one each on Sunnipenta and Domalapenta along with the construction of DAM and Hydel Power Project which is the major source of power generation and supply to the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Sunnipenta evolved to be a major habitation as most of the Technicians, labour settled here even after the completion of Dam and Power House. The population is about 25,000. Many Schools and Colleges are started for the benefit of the children of these people.
